Join us for an “extra credit” study session with Dr. Carter J. Carter in the afternoon at the beautiful Tateuchi Story Theater in the Wing Luke Museum. Dr. Carter will present two thought-provoking papers that examine discrimination within psychoanalytic institutions and society, offering attendees a unique opportunity to reflect on and discuss his work. As part of this dialogue, Dr. Carter invites us to grapple with the following questions: What does it mean for me to be angry with psychoanalysis? For that matter, what does it mean to love psychoanalysis? What is this psychoanalysis that I love, with which I am so very angry? These questions will anchor our conversation, encouraging participants to consider their own experiences and perspectives in relation to his work. Papers will be provided in advance, and all are welcome to join this rich and reflective exploration.

Carter is, in no particular order: the lead labor organizer for Massachusetts' union of state university professors and librarians; Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts; Lecturer in the School of Social Policy and Practice, and Affiliated Faculty in the Psychoanalytic Studies Program, at the University of Pennsylvania; the author of a small-town newspaper recipe column, Larder Ardor with Carter Carter; an editor on the boards of Studies in Gender & Sexuality and Psychoanalysis, Culture & Society; the owner of two small businesses, including a private practice in psychotherapy and clinical supervision and a farm; and the author of a number of psychoanalytic articles and a forthcoming book, "Bound to Lose: How Fascism Came for Psychoanalysis."
