Kelly approaches her work with the understanding that we know ourselves and the world around us through the patterns of the past that have been woven on our brains and our bodies. As a relational psychodynamic therapist, Kelly builds a strong working alliance with clients in order to collaboratively explore emotional patterns, interpersonal relationships, and how past experiences inform the present in order to help clients achieve their goals. Throughout her work with clients, she will also incorporate education and skill building to help expand tolerance for emotional experiences, to increase understanding, and to help reinforce new ways of being and relating.
Kelly draws on the ARC (attachment, regulation, and competency) framework along with neurobiology research, attachment theory, and object relations theory to guide her work. She may also use techniques and approaches incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness practices, along with psychoeducation to provide clients with skills, tools, and insights. When working with younger children, her work will largely be done through play, incorporating play therapy techniques, since play is the natural language of children and is how children make sense of their experiences.
Kelly received her Masters in Counseling Psychology in 2015 from the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology and her Chemical Dependency certificate in 2017 from City University in Seattle. She has more than five years of experience working with individuals and families in a variety of settings including outpatient mental health, intensive wrap-around services, and substance use disorder treatment.
