Distinguished Speakers presents: Laplanche Study Group with Avgi Saketopoulou

The Laplanche Study Group will bring together a cohort of advanced learners dedicated to acquiring depth of knowledge and skill in a theoretical vein not otherwise available in a general study program. This course will require an investment of time for reading of the texts, plus participation in once monthly 3-hour meetings with Avgi Saketopoulou. We expect the time dedicated to close reading and communal study will be deeply rewarding. The course is capped at 15 participants to ensure individual teaching attention from the instructor.

The goal is for the completion of the course to represent a significant commitment to ongoing psychoanalytic learning in a domain of study that is not routinely offered. As an advanced learning atelier, this stands to be a learning experience that shifts what--and how--participants are equipped to read Freud and Laplanche in particular, and psychoanalytic theory more generally. The course can also inspire new thinking vis-a-vis clinical work, inform learners' supervisory approach, and deepen their own teaching.

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum 7 years-experience in clinical practice
  • One year of study in Freudian theory. Examples relevant to our community may include:
    • Graduation from psychoanalytic training institute’s 4-year didactics
    • Completion of a 2-year certificate program at either NPSI or SPSI
    • Having taught a quarter-long course on Freud in any setting
