Contemporary psychoanalysis searches for its own identity, endeavoring to be just, inclusive and a healing perspective in our changing and chaotic world.

Martin Bullard, LICSW, a white male clinician, will present ideas and experiences in cross racial psychoanalytic work having to do with difference, identity, and the analysis of oppressive conditions. Martin will discuss how the ideas of Brazilian radical educator Paolo Freire help him “widen the scope” of psychoanalysis to include both internal & external oppressive conditions.

Martin Bullard, LICSW is a social worker with a background working with youth and families in residential and milieu settings. He is a member of the faculty at SPSI, and is a Consulting Analyst and Analyst of Candidates. He is also currently the SPSI Faculty Chair-elect.

Modern Psychoanalysis and Cross-Racial Work" - Discussant: Taryn Beard-Killeri, PsyD

Taryn Beard-Killeri, PsyD, an African American Clinical psychologist, will serve as discussant and respond to Martin’s ideas and clinical work and offer perspectives of her own. This will be followed by discussion with the audience.

Taryn Beard-Killeri, PsyD, is a clinical psychologist and a third year clinical associate at Seattle Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. She has a private practice in Seattle focused on adults and children.
