Saturday Dialogue: A Narrow Frame: Lessons In Deviating From a Traditional Frame with a Young Psychotic Patient
with Isaac Ekblad & Sue Carlson
Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 10:00am
In-Person only at the COR office: 2915 E Madison St, Suite 300, Seattle, WA, 98115
Patients with more pronounced psychotic features can challenge adherence to a traditional frame. This especially becomes the case in the time surrounding a psychotic episode. I will discuss ongoing work with a young woman with whom negotiations of frame have become focal to our work together.
- Participants will have a better understanding of how negotiations of the frame impact a therapy situation.
- Participants will gain knowledge of transference dynamics.
- Participants will gain knowledge of projections into animate and inanimate objects.
The Saturday Dialogues stand as one of the oldest traditions at COR. In fact, COR began as a Saturday Dialogue in the home of Mel Knight in the mid 1990’s. The overarching goal, then and now, is to share our clinical experience working within the British Object Relations framework. A Dialogue begins with a therapist opening up their work with a particular patient/client and describing some of the challenges and personal issues they face with this person. A discussant then responds with their reflections about the case and then invites the group to share their thoughts and feelings.
Saturday Dialogues take place in the COR office, on a Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 am, and are in person only. Seats are available on first-come first-serve basis until the classroom fills up (there are no reservations or registration). The classroom seats about 25 people.
Members of COR attend for free.
