Carl Jung claimed that the two most important experiences of his life involved India. Even so, he struggled with Indian thought for most of his life from a situation of fright while visiting there to claiming that kundalini yoga provided parallels to many of his psychological discoveries. In tonight’s lecture, you will hear about Jung’s Vedic writings in the Red Book, his visit to India and how it affected him, his kundalini yoga lectures that spanned nearly a decade, and his struggle with India’s teachings on the dissolution of the ego and how this related to his Western point of view. Images of India, Jung’s Vedic art, and spontaneous sandtrays of kundalini rising will be shown to highlight these points.
Learning Objectives:
(1) To learn the parallels between Jungian concepts and Indian thought.
(2) To understand the process of kundalini yoga and its relationship to spiritual growth.
