This three-hour seminar will explore how racialized identity is developed and considered within psychoanalysis, with particular attention to the complexity of Latinx identity and the racial, cultural, and institutional forces that can fracture, constrain, and multiply the self. Drawing from three original papers, Dr. Rodríguez will consider the psychic consequences of normative and binary identity categories, internalized racial hierarchies and white-dominant norms, and the role of memory and music in illuminating histories of colonialism and resistance. _

The program will invite us to consider how race, class, gender, and language enter the consulting room—and how psychoanalytic practice can better hold multiplicity, contradiction, and complexity.
